Retreats and Pilgrimage

Allowing students the opportunity to retreat from the usual routines of College and home life provides a valuable experience of team building, leadership and opportunity for spiritual formation.

Here at All Hallows Catholic College we are delighted to offer a variety of both residential and day retreat programmes.

Year 6 students are welcomed into the College Community by taking part in a residential at Liverpool Hope University. This gives all students an opportunity to make new friends, meet key pastoral staff and begin to learn about the College values, which will form the basis of their journey to Year 13.  It provides an induction into the prayer and liturgical life of the College.

Year 7 students can reinforce their formation by attending a retreat at Alton Castle Retreat Centre in Staffordshire during the Autumn Term of Year 7. Living together in a castle, eating, working and praying together helps our students form strong bonds and friendships.

Year 8 students are fortunate to attend our local Salesian Retreat Centre, Savio House with their Form Tutor for a fun-packed day of activities, prayer and reflection.

Year 9 students welcome the Shrewsbury Mission Team during Lent to work together on the theme of “We are God’s work”. This allows students to think also of their academic future as they consider the gifts God has given them as they choose their GCSE options.

Year 10 students return to Alton Castle and visit Soli House for a residential retreat, the theme of which this year was “Anchored”. Young people have the opportunity to reflect on God’s place in their lives and how they can develop their prayer life as they grow into young adults.

Year 11 The Shrewsbury Mission Team will lead our Year 11 Day of Reflection in Advent this year.

Year 12 and 13 students have opportunities for reflection and response during the Core RE experience. They have the wonderful opportunity to visit our clinic in India and working with the Presentation Sisters to provide education and health care to children who have far fewer material possessions than themselves.

They also take part in active stewardship projects taking a lead on raising funds for our clinic in India and supporting the annual Diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes.
