All Hallows Catholic College is an all-ability Voluntary Academy for boys and girls aged 11 to 18. The College serves a wide geographical area of East Cheshire and also draws students from parts of Derbyshire, Staffordshire and Stockport. We welcome all who are seeking a Christian education inspired by the Catholic way of life and faith. In addition to our traditional Catholic community we are pleased to welcome students from other backgrounds. We have a special relationship with the Anglican community through our Church of England partner primary schools. Parents are very supportive of our ethos because they have made an active choice for our college and its’ values. We are recognised as an outstanding college with a tangible and palpable ethos that combines gospel values, ethical enterprise and an aspiration for all students to be the best that they can be in all dimensions of their lives.
The College has had two successive top grade, ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted inspections, in April 2011 and in December 2014. In the words of the latest report: ‘This is an outstanding college…they have established a culture of high expectation, integrity and ambition…they are determined that students will achieve their potential…this culture is shared by all staff and students. The impact of this is students’ learning and progress are outstanding and they show excellent attitudes when in college.’ Ofsted Dec 2014
We are an all-ability college, which welcomes everyone, irrespective of social class or parents’ ability to pay. All Hallows demonstrates that excellent education is to be found for all in a passionate commitment to Christian values, excellence in teaching, teamwork, and a belief in young peoples potential to ‘Aspire not to have more but to be more’ (Our Mission Statement / Archbishop Oscar Romero).
We are a Catholic college working ‘for’ and ‘within’ the community, working together for the Common Good. Our open and welcoming ethos stems from our commitment to faith values and building a community. Together we have created an inclusive, harmonious community where all students are known, nurtured and treated as unique individuals.
We provide an education for the whole person, for the formation of human character through knowledge and skills, and values and virtues. For this reason we have developed a strong emphasis on living the Christian values of Honourable Purpose, Respect, Compassion, Co-operation and Stewardship.
‘Students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development is outstandingly well promoted and pervades the life of the college. It is strongly promoted through the curriculum as well as the culture of the college. There are many opportunities for students to reflect on spiritual issues through the college’s ethos as a faith school. It is an exceptionally strong feature of how well the college promotes equality of opportunity for all.’ Ofsted 2014
Our unique model for teaching and learning builds on these values and ensures effective teaching which fully engages learners. According to inspectors ‘The outstanding quality of teaching enables students to make rapid progress in almost all subjects throughout the college’ Ofsted 2014
Our broad and balanced curriculum is enhanced with specialisms in: Business, ethical and social enterprise; Languages and the international dimension (French, German, Spanish, Latin and Mandarin); and opportunities for outdoor learning through our college farm. This curriculum is ‘a real strength of the college and is designed to meet the needs of students, ensuring rapid progress for them’ Ofsted 2014
Our students’ behaviour is outstanding and is evidenced by caring, compassionate attitudes, a strong sense of pride in the college and a ‘thirst for learning’ Ofsted 2014. Visitors to college comment, without exception, on our modern Catholic ethos, smart uniform and sense of pride in being a community.
The commitment of teaching and support staff is exceptional at All Hallows. ‘Teachers know students very well and have very high expectations of them and what they can achieve. This has embedded a culture of success and excellence in achievement throughout the college. Students respond extremely positively to this and are enthusiastic learners and take responsibility for their work and progress.’ Ofsted 2014
In January 2013 we became a Voluntary Academy and a founding member of The Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Academy Trust, which supports and enhances the work of all of the schools in All Hallows Learning Community.
